Shelby O'Brien

Shelby O’Brien was born in York, Pa. Her art practice grounds itself in confrontations with mortality, the fragility of the human body, and how one’s role in their own lineage brings these ideas to the surface. O’Brien creates sculptures and installations which incorporate banal utilitarian objects, and domestic processes.

In August of 2015 O’Brien had a solo exhibition at Gush Gallery in Philadelphia, Pa. She also presented a solo performance piece entitled Wall of Thoughts at York College Galleries in York, Pa in 2012. In 2007 Shelby O’Brien was awarded 2nd and 3rd prize at the Annual Student and Teacher Exhibition at the York Art Association in York, Pa.

O’Brien currently lives and works in Philadelphia, Pa. She is a University of the Arts, Studio Arts MFA candidate in December of 2016. She received her Bachelors of Fine Arts with a minor in Art History and Psychology at York College of Pennsylvania in 2014.
